How did a machine beat human champions on the Jeopardy TV game show, and what implications does modern artificial intelligence have for the future of learning? It's elementary: Dear Watson!
Stephen Baker got an inside seat as IBM scientists pieced together the Jeopardy machine, Watson. Their effort, which Stephen narrates in his book, Final Jeopardy, was the schooling of a computer in both language and knowledge. Participants in this session will explore with Stephen the advent of question-answering machines such as Watson, and the important questions these machines raise about what knowledge and skills we need inside our heads — and what we should teach our children.
