In order to have an impact, L&D must become fluent in the language of impact: data. Data literacy is the ability to read, work with, analyze, and communicate with data. This session focuses on the basics of data literacy skills for learning professionals: a mental model to think differently about data, fundamental knowledge of data classification, and some creative tools to get those who are not enthusiastic about data involved.
In this session we'll ask key questions as we explore data literacy:
- Why the "What learning data are you interested in?" question to stakeholders may backfire
- What's wrong with a 4.4 average satisfaction rate for a course
- Why we can stop creating dashboards when nobody is using them for decision-making
- What are some of the traps to avoid when designing, building, and implementing a data literacy program
