General Information
What is Hyperdrive and how is it structured?
Hyperdrive is an open competition that invites individuals and organizations to share technically innovative and exciting ways to enhance learning and solve business problems. Each Hyperdrive presenter will have 10 minutes to share his or her story live on stage in front of a panel of expert judges and a live audience.
At the end of the event, the scores of the judges will be tabulated and three “winners” will be selected. The winners will be announced during the opening keynote of the conference, and they will have a 15-minute slot during the conference to share their stories during the Hyperdrive Winners Showcase.
When is Hyperdrive?
Hyperdrive will be held Tuesday, October 23, 2018 from 3:30p to 6:30p.
Is Hyperdrive unique to eLearning Guild events?
Yes, Hyperdrive is unique to the DevLearn Conference & Expo. Hyperdrive offers you the opportunity to share your knowledge and expertise, as well as to learn from the trials and successes of your peers.
Applying to Participate
If I participate in Hyperdrive, do I have to give a formal presentation?
Yes. Each participant in the Hyperdrive competition will have a 10-minute slot during which they can share how their innovative technical learning solution solved problems in an organizational setting.
If your presentation is selected as one of the Hyperdrive winners, you will also have 15 minutes to share your story during the Hyperdrive Winners Showcase session on Wednesday, October 24, from 1:15p to 2:15p.
Who can submit to participate?
Anyone who is a registered conference attendee of DevLearn 2018, including full conference and Expo+ attendees, speakers, and registered exhibitor staff.
We are looking for technically innovative learning solutions and for people who are willing to talk about their challenges and solutions. Hyperdrive is your opportunity to show off your projects and to help further innovative technical learning solutions.
What types of projects can be submitted?
Almost any type of solution that leverages technology can be submitted. Share your project, finished or in progress, and pitch it as part of the competition. Your submission should show how your solution solves a specific learning and/or business need.
What is NOT eligible for Hyperdrive?
Pure product demonstrations or features of products are not eligible. Hyperdrive is not about demonstrating technology products or platforms—it’s about sharing the stories of how those technologies were used in a project that solved a business problem.
Vendors of learning technologies who wish to demonstrate their products or services should contact Cheri Lynch to inquire about exhibiting on the expo floor, participating in product stage sessions, and other promotional opportunities.
Can vendors of eLearning products or custom development services participate?
Yes! Please refer to the question “Who can submit to participate?” above for requirements.
If you have a client who has used your tools or services, we encourage you to have that client participate in Hyperdrive, as we are most interested in hearing the business value of the project; the vendor’s product or services will be showcased by association. Your client must be a registered conference attendee in order to participate in Hyperdrive.
Note that Hyperdrive is not intended as an opportunity to sell your products or services! (See section above about what is not eligible for submission.) Hyperdrive is designed for peers to share their projects with peers and a judging panel. Anyone who is actively marketing or selling during Hyperdrive will be asked to leave.
Can DevLearn 2017 speakers participate?
Yes, DevLearn 2018 speakers can participate in Hyperdrive.
When/how do I submit my project?
Click here to submit your Hyperdrive 2018 project.
Submissions are due by September 21, 2018.
Can I enter multiple submissions?
You are limited to one (1) entry per organization. However, vendors may submit multiple projects for different organizations, provided that each is unique and that the clients are co-facilitating the session.
How do I know if my project has been accepted?
We will review your project and send you an email to let you know if your submission has been accepted before the end of September. If your submission does not meet our requirements, we will give you feedback and the opportunity to re-submit your project.
If you have not heard back from us after the end of September, please contact programs@elearningguild.com for your submission status.
Is there a limit to the number of projects accepted?
Yes. The number of projects is limited by the amount of time allocated to Hyperdrive. Therefore, projects will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis, provided:
- The submission form is complete.
- The submission is a valid project (i.e., is not a product demonstration, etc.)
- Any demonstrators listed on the form meet the registration criteria.
- The project is submitted by the deadline.
What technology do I need to conduct my demonstration?
- Any presentations or demos will need to be run off your own laptop.
- Wireless internet will be available, but we encourage you to load your application onto your laptop hard drive, CD, or USB drive and be prepared to run it in case you are unable to make an internet connection.
Will you send me more information if I am accepted?
If your program is accepted, you will be sent complete instructions on set-up times, technical options, etc., in early October.
Is this a competition? How will winners be selected?
There will be a panel of judges that will vote on every presentation in Hyperdrive. Hyperdrive is designed to be fun and engaging and to provide recognition for those who are helping drive innovation in our field. Three presentations will be selected as winners during Hyperdrive, and those sessions will participate in the Hyperdrive Winners Showcase during the conference.
How will awards be given?
If you are selected to participate as a presenter in Hyperdrive 2018, please be sure to attend the first general session at DevLearn. Winners will be announced during the first part of the general session, and the Hyperdrive Winners Showcase will take place on Wednesday, October 24.
Whom can I contact if I have additional questions.
Please feel free to reach out to us at hyperdrive@eLearningGuild.com should you have any additional questions.
